I have spent some time over the past week working on a new layout for my blog.
Some of the changes include:
The header image has been replaced with a wider image.
The RSS button has been increased in size and an email subcription added.
The add comments page has been modified to also include the entry on the page.
It works fine in Firefox and Opera, and after a bit of hassle, also in Internet Explorer.
If you have any comments please let me know through the comments.

Your layout looks great.
After having dabbled a bit (unsuccessfully) in trying to personalize my blog’s theme, I really am in awe of anyone who manages to do things like this.
Though I too couldn’t understand why your posts were in a box, I thought that gave your blog a unique identity. No other blog that I have seen has had something like that.
Now yours blog looks more conventional. I don’t know if that is what you wanted.
Excellent. I never could understand why the entry was in it’s own little box. I like the entry and comment page being available at the same time.
Good job. A nice clean blog.

This is so much better than before, Ian. Well done!
It now has a good sense of order to it. People know what you blog about with your categories prominent. Your header image is the same height as your name button which is good. You make it easy for people to subscribe. You’ve added my blog as one you read.
All good stuff.
Again, well done.
David
Thanks for your comments. Originally I had the idea that fixing the entry size into its own box would avoid a lot of scrolling whilst keeping the header and navigation visable. It had however become very restricting with the available space in the sidebars and didn’t really save any scrolling.
I know it has lost that unique feature, but the other way of looking at it is, the more conventional layout is generally used because it works.
I may still tweak it a bit, but overall I’m much happier with the layout.
Regards,
Ian
I like the blog layout! I haven’t seen the other one, but it seems to work great. Very w-i-d-e which is good because you can fit more and you don’t have to worry about things getting cluttered. It’s a perfect layout for adsense and such.
Looking at your archives I see you’ve had this blog around for a long time… great job! I heard most blogs don’t stay in operation for more than 3 months so huge kudos to you… I’m pretty new at this myself, just getting into the groove of it but I’m liking it so far. Getting a lot of visitors lately. Are you on EntreCard?
Thanks for your visit and comment. This post was actually relating to the previous layout (which is still knocking about at http://oldblog.ijhedges.com).
I migrated to a WordPress powered blog in October this year (http://blog.ijhedges.com/2007/10/22/complete-blog-makeover/) and this is the layout you see now.
I’m not on EntreCard, I am spending a lot of time on cre8Buzz at the moment and increasing my readers through it.
Regards,
Ian
